my chest is full of fire
hot
drying
crackling
powerful.
i’ve been taught
to smother it
to wrap my body
around the fire
to make sure it wouldn’t
get out of control
the fire was only embers
it wouldn’t dare go up in flames
sometimes, i shivered
now
i’m changing shape
and im feeding the fire
the flames are
beautiful
warm
powerful.
i trust
i am finding a shape
that my body can exist in
that allows the fire inside my chest
to be
bright
proud
hot
alive.
I can trust
it won’t take over
and run through me
and burn it all down
and if the fire becomes wild
i can tame the firewith my sacred tears
